This morning Maggie was still awake and trying to crawl out of her bed. She is still unsuccessful at making it out of the bed, I blame the lack of strength, not lack of effort.
She finished up part 2 of her blood transfusion this morning.
Today is a big day for Maggie in the NICU, she's been there now 1 month. I took it upon myself to read her one of her 1 Month gifts from the nurses, The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. By the way click on his link to his wikipedia page, that Shel is one hard worker, and surprisingly a bit of a Renaissance man, I mean he wrote "A Boy Named Sue" after all.
Maggie's primary nurse goes on a 2 week vacation today. So we'll be getting to know a lot more nurses over the next few weeks. Everyone we've had so far has been great, so we are confident there will be no interruption in the high quality of service Maggie has received.
In Robert Burns' poem To a Mouse, Burns crafted the line "The best laid plans o' mice and men gang aft a gley." Why the Burns reference you ask? Well we have really seen the past couple weeks, what that means. We've seen two sets of parents who have been ready to take their children home keep being delayed because of things that have come up with their child. So while we hope things with Maggie continue going great and we can take her home in early September, we know it really depends on her health and how comfortable the nurses are in making that happen. And we know that even her day to day plans can change quite drastically.
By the way this post would totally be my Pulitzer submission, TWO literary references, I mean come on.
