Update Day 11: Maggie's First Field Trip..Childrens Hospital!

Well the Echo confirmed today that the PDA didn't close. The doctors at St E's and Childrens' both determined that we would skip the indocin stage of treatment and go right into the surgical ligation. The indocin's side effects was a major reason why they are skipping this possible treatment. Also the fact that Maggie is so stable with her oxygen and BP levels, makes the doctors think it is a better option for the ligation. So tomorrow we will be off to Childrens we are still unsure at this point of the time of transfer, but Maggie will be staying in the city a few days and then coming back to St E's. When I quizzed the cardiologist from Childrens on the risks, one of his responses was "These [the cardiac surgeons at Childrens) are the best surgeons in the world". So since we can't get the doctors from Mars here in time, I guess these guys will do. Of course there are risks with any surgical procedure but they have been doing these ligations at Childrens since 1939.

By the way the nurse on duty for Maggie as well as one of the nurses who was covering a set of twins both stayed late to make sure that all my questions were answered. Our primary nurse was also on tonight and helping us out with what will happen the next few days. I cannot say it enough how great we've had it with our nurses the past few weeks.
