Bon Jovi Rules!!!!!!!

Now I know some of you are nodding in agreement, perhaps humming a Bon Jovi tune as we speak (Shot through the heart…..), but this is a rudimentary lesson in English grammar, called a homonym. A homonym is a word that sounds the same and is spelled the same, but has different meanings. So in this case, Bon Jovi Rules, doesn’t mean Bon Jovi is Awesome (which they are); but instead means Bon Jovi Guidelines. Sorry for confusing some of you, I clearly did this on purpose. Anyways back to the Bon Jovi Rules (guidelines, not awesomeness), a few months ago I read in Best Life Magazine (since defunct) an article on parenting and the Bon Jovi Rule was discussed. I am copying below what the Bon Jovi Rule is and linking to the article here so you don’t think I read this in the monthly Bon Jovi Fan club Newsletter:

Richie Sambora is the guitarist for Bon Jovi as well as a devoted dad to his daughter, Ava. He once said the band's ability to stay healthy on the road is made possible by one rule: No hands to the face. Rock 'n' roll stars shake so many hands and encounter so many germs while touring & greeting fans backstage, signing autographs, and attending afterparties. You will almost never see a successful rock 'n' roll superstar sticking his finger in his eye if he has an itch. Instead, he will use a sleeve, a cuff, a shirttail, a tissue, or whatever else is available. Let your children learn how to stay healthy from one of the greatest rock bands in the world. Teach your children the Bon Jovi rule: No hands to the face.

Now exactly what does this have to do with Maggie you ask? Well, Sue and I have to be completely germ free. If we get sick or an infection we are not allowed to visit our wonderful bundle of joy in the NICU. Not only are we putting Maggie at risk, but the other babies in the NICU as well as the wonderful doctors and nurses we’ve encountered so far. Believe me, the NICU isn’t the kind of place where you want the Junior Varsity closing out the game because things are looking good, you want your All Stars out there at all times. So we’ll need everyone’s help in staying germ free, so we’ll be adopting our own Bon Jovi Rules. If we have lunch plans and you are feeling a cold coming on, just reschedule. We may stop shaking hands and hugging and all sorts of contact, so please don’t get offended; we’re trying to do the best we can for Maggie. We’ll be washing our hands after touching anything and everything (maybe I can get Purell to sponsor the blog?). Lastly, one of the most important things we need is rest. Your body tends to break down in stressful situations if you aren’t getting enough rest, so I ask that unless it’s an emergency (Kris beating Adam in American Idol is not an emergency, no matter how devastated you are); please do not call or text us between 9pm and 9am. So to recap:

If you are sick, reschedule
No personal contact
Wash your hands
No calls between 9 pm and 9am

Thanks, we appreciate it

  1. I really thought this was going to be about how you sang "Livin' on a Prayer" to Maggie. You still can...
I wasn't sick yesterday, I swear! No germs from me!
