To add to Phil's list of 22 things, I thought I would add 5 more things I have learned over these past 5 months:
1. They say two of the hardest parts about having a baby in the NICU are the first couple of weeks after birth and then the weeks leading up to the baby going home. Ain't that the truth! You may have noticed we have not written about a discharge date for Maggie - well, that is because it has now changed about 4 times. So, we know she will eventually come home. But only Maggie knows when she will definitely be ready.
2. Ladies - when the doctor asks you if your water has broken. Let me tell you - you will know when your water breaks (or has broke). That is for sure.
3. When the hospital asks if you need anything to take home with you - take whatever you can carry. Take syringes, diapers, bottles - take whatever they are willing to give you. Heck, I took my water pitcher. They had used it to reference how much water I should be drinking, so I took it. ;)
4. When I married Phil, I knew he was going to be a great husband and would be a great father. He has blown me away. Maggie is not even home yet - and she is already the luckiest girl with such an attentive and loving father. Maggie (and myself) are so blessed to have Phil in our lives!
5. I thought we knew a lot of people. We have incredibly supportive family and friends, and yet, these past 5 months we have met hundreds of new doctors, nurses, patients, NICU parents, parking attendants, etc. - and we know most by name. I know the list will continue to grow - but each name holds a special place in our hearts. Not only will we never forget them, but we are a better family for knowing each one of them.
Thank you for everything. All of you.
