Tuesday With Maggie

So tomorrow morning is a fun filled day where Sue and I get to spend the morning with Maggie. Unfortunately as it is a Tuesday, and not let's say a Saturday, this usually means one thing, a doctor's trip. And it's kind of a big deal. Tomorrow morning we head into Children's and have Maggie's Pre-Op appointment. Yes, you read that right, Maggie is having surgery this Friday. We are replacing the NG-tube (see nose on the left) with a stomach tube, called a G-Tube. Essentially Maggie is not really taking enough food by mouth and the G-Tube is a more permanent fix than the NG-Tube. The G-Tube is something we always knew may be an option, but as surgery is involved we've put off as long as we could. It's been a super tough decision to make, it seems everyone we know has weighed in with an opinion which has not made it any easier. Luckily we have some friends who can speak intelligently about these things (you know doctor and nurse types) and they helped us really understand the benefits of the G-Tube. Now, we've been told that the procedure is fairly routine, and of course we have that whole best doctors in the world work in Boston thing going for us. In fact Maggie's stay should be relatively short.

Now some things you should know. Maggie has been rolling over from her stomach to her back, which is an exercise in perseverance as she can only really use her left arm to push herself up because of the Erb's Palsy in her right arm. The right arm is getting better, slowly but surely. And she now weighs 13 pounds 12 ounces. Oh, and did I mention she is an honorary member of the 173rd Airborne brigade?
