way. Remember at the beginning of The Rock when Stanley and his co-
worker are poisioned with the serin gas? And the people in the lab
tell the co-worker that he has to stab himself in the heart with the
adrenaline and he says, "You want me to do WHAT?!?". That was my
reaction when we were told that we would be responsible for replacing
the NG-Tube. Now to take a few steps back, an NG-Tube is fed through
the nose, down the throat and into the stomach. It took two fully
trained nurses to insert it into Maggie (I am sure before the civil
rights laws outlawing choke holds, it only took one nurse) and Sue and
I were just supposed to pick it up? I am not too sure this was a good
plan. We finally agreed if the tube came out, we'd either head to the
hospital to reinsert or our pediatrician's office. Please note, one
of our nurse friends (who had a birthday this week) was able to tell
us who of our doctor and nurse friends in the area could also perform
this task, so if your phone rings...
Anyways Maggie has been tolerating her feeds pretty well thus far. Sue
and I are getting used to the new equipment and procedures and Maggie
should be a 20 pounder in no time at all.
Needless to say, our house looks like a combo meth lab/ hospital
supply store. Do you know how in movies the bank robbers or criminals
always visit a vet or underground doctor when they are shot or
bleeding for treatment? Well if any bank robbers/ criminals on the
run out there come down with a bad case of acid reflux or vitamin
deficiency, we'd be a good place to visit.

So glad she's home. And you guys have been such amazing parents handling so many things so far, I bet you could kick that NG tube's ass.
ReplyDelete(Though having witnessed an NG tube put in on an adult, I don't blame you for your Nic Cage reaction - I'd go to the pedi's office too!)
I think it's ridiculous that they didn't actually TEACH you how to do it.
ReplyDeleteI'd be happy to teach you...but I'm also happy to direct you to the nearest pediatrician's office...because Maggie is really too ridiculously cute for me to upset her.
